As Canada began to establish its own identity and military, swords began to take on a more distinctly Canadian design.
One of the most recognizable swords of this era is the British 1822 pattern infantry officer's sword. This sword features a straight, single-edged blade and a brass hilt with a lion's head pommel. This sword was used by Canadian officers during the Red River Expedition, the North-West Rebellion, and the Boer War.
